I love it when a boy kisses a girl. Don’t get me wrong, I also love when a girl kisses a boy or a girl kisses a girl. A kiss is the actualized physical embodiment of deep affections and is lovely in each context. But when a boy kisses a girl for the first time, really kisses a girl, with tenderness and care– it is also a quiet rebellion against adolescent fear, against sandbox politics alleging that girls are gross. When a boy first kisses a girl, he is also saying to the world “you are wrong. This girl…all girls…are magic”.
